Kibra is a very talented R&B singer from Toronto.

Spice in the 6ix aims to showcase creatives from the GTA whose talent we think gets over looked or does not get enough shine as they should. This week’s creator, Kibra, has been selected as one of our Top 6 Hidden Spices. This is an opportunity for our audience to become better acquainted with her through our brief Q&A interview.

1. What’s your background and which part of Toronto did you grow up?

“Eritrea and The West-End of Toronto.”

2. What got you into making music and who inspires you?

“I've been musical since childhood. Once I saw friends pursue music I realized that it could actually be an option for me, too. So with the support of a few people and good ol' trial and error, I figured it out enough that I felt confident to go at it full force and I haven't looked back since.”

“Who inspires me? Honestly, right now, me. And not in a narcissistic way, but for a long time it was really difficult for me to look within myself to find inspiration. It was too vulnerable for me to put out music that was based on my own lived experiences or feelings. I've always been very private, so I've always shied away from feeling too exposed. It also was just too hard to face those emotions head on, let alone put out music about it. But I found that there was a sense of realness missing from my music, so I have been challenging myself to dig deeper. It's been a scary but beautiful and the healing process has allowed me to create music that not only sounds good, but truly resonates with people.”

3. What is your creative process like?

“Depends on what I'm creating. I find a lot of joy in creating moments and experiences, however that may be. I enjoy crafting my sets when I perform to be engaging and authentic. I love coming up with visual concepts for my music videos that can incorporate my culture(s) to my political views. I like creating alone, I like creating with others. Sometimes ideas wake me up in my sleep and then I'm up all night, sometimes while I'm driving and I need to pull over, sometimes when I'm in the shower and I need to put my phone's water resistance to the test; but sometimes it's super intentional and comes out of me when I sit down during the time I have carved out to be creative. I'm also still exploring more avenues for inspiration. I'm open and feel like I've only cracked the surface for what my creative potential is.”

4. Which famous artist would you like to collaborate with?

“Stevie Wonder”

5. Where can fans go to connect with you and check out your music?

IG: @kibramusic TikTok: @kibramusic and Streaming platforms: Kibra

6. Is there any new spice that you’re working on right now that you’ll like to share exclusively on Spice In The 6ix Media?

“I'm working on my first album!”
